Measuring Ancient Works
Date & Time
Friday, July 13, 2018, 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Description
Who were the “Moundbuilders”, and how did they plan and guide their projects?  Modern surveyors with GPS are not unique in looking to the skies for positional guidance.  Ancient stoneworks, earthworks and the faint remnants of wooden structures provide evidence of  extensive astronomic and geometric knowledge. The seminar is an overview of three aspects of measurement of Ancient American Works: The probable measurement methods and math of the ancient builders;  The methods and mapping of the “discoverers” during the 1800’s; and What modern measurement and mapping can reveal about the purposes of the builders, and the insights and misconceptions of the discoverers.
