The Australian and New Zealand Association for Health Professions Education (ANZAHPE) is the peak body for Medical and Health Science Education in Australia.  Medical Education in Australia is undergoing a series of transitions as the basic qualifications medical move from a Bachelors to Masters Qualifications, we adapt to our imperative to to provide equitable health care for all, including those in remote and rural environments, and respond to the need to provide culturally appropriate and accessible health care for First Nations Peoples (Aborigines, Torres Strait Islanders and Maori).   The purpose of this session is to provide the audience with an overview of the shape and structure of medical education in Australia and New Zealand, focussing on the increased research training in our degrees, the development of deliberative strategies to train and retain doctors in rural areas, the recruitment of Aboriginal and Maori students into our courses and the teaching of Aboriginal and Maori Health.
