Date & Time
Monday, June 10, 2019, 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM
Neil Osheroff Cathleen Pettepher
Description
The professional development of medical students is crucial, as physicians require expertise beyond medical knowledge. A competency-based assessment scheme can help to identify these professional attributes. Peer feedback is a powerful tool that can develop these skills, and nearly all students will be required to give and receive written and face-to-face feedback during their careers. The receptivity and interpretation of the feedback can be used in the formal assessment of medical trainees.

Session Objectives:
  1. Develop a competency-based framework that uses peer feedback to develop specific professional attributes.
  2. Compare and contrast the benefits and shortcomings of written and face-to-face feedback.
  3. Outline practical methods for teaching high quality peer feedback to students and to how incorporate this instruction into the curriculum.
  4. Describe how peer feedback can be integrated into the formal assessment of students.
