Description
The professional development of medical students is crucial, as physicians require expertise beyond medical knowledge. A competency-based assessment scheme can help to identify these professional attributes. Peer feedback is a powerful tool that can develop these skills, and nearly all students will be required to give and receive written and face-to-face feedback during their careers. The receptivity and interpretation of the feedback can be used in the formal assessment of medical trainees.
Session Objectives:
- Develop a competency-based framework that uses peer feedback to develop specific professional attributes.
- Compare and contrast the benefits and shortcomings of written and face-to-face feedback.
- Outline practical methods for teaching high quality peer feedback to students and to how incorporate this instruction into the curriculum.
- Describe how peer feedback can be integrated into the formal assessment of students.
