Description
It is challenging to walk the line of student advocacy while maintaining academic standards. Students struggle with mental illness, burnout, anxiety, stress, and time management difficulties that can impact academic performance. However, improving academic performance has traditionally relied on improving test-taking, study and organizational skills. But the psychosocial issues can impact academic success as much or more than the other skills. The workshop will address how to best support students holistically while ensuring that students graduating can thrive in a career as a physician.
Session Objectives:
- List challenges and potential consequences related to timely medical school completion
- Categorize challenges related to academic, personal and psychosocial issues
- Identify innovative interventions to remediate these challenges
- Outline a plan for evaluating and disseminating outcomes from these interventions
