Dr. Hutak is an Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical Specialties at the NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Toxicology/Biology in 1982, Master of Science in Toxicology in 1985 and her Doctorate in Toxicology/Pharmacology in 1991 from St. John’s University, Jamaica, NY. She served as an adjunct Assistant Professor at St. John’s University, College of Pharmacy and Allied Health from 1992 through 1999.

Dr. Hutak began teaching pharmacology at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) in 1991 as a full-time faculty member. During her tenure at NYITCOM, she has lectured in pharmacology, clinical toxicology, and had served as a scientific instructor for the Biomedical Sciences research course.

Dr. Hutak has served as the Academic Coordinator for the preclinical problem-based learning (PBL) curriculum, the Doctor Patient Continuum (DPC), at NYITCOM and as a full-time facilitator in the program, since 2005. She was the recipient of the NYITCOM Standard of Excellence Award in 2007 and again in 2011.

Dr. Hutak’s past research areas included developing a cellular model for ocular toxicity and permeability, which resulted in several publications and a book chapter. Currently, she is concentrating her research efforts on medical education and studies evaluating academic outcomes for different teaching methodologies including problem-based learning.
