Description

This workshop will focus on strategies to plan, develop, and implement engaged learning activities within traditional didactic coursework for medical students, focusing primarily on pre-clinical coursework in discipline- or systems-based curricula that otherwise use traditional didactic content delivery. Workshop participants will learn from experiences from a program that has had success with such modalities, namely ER/clinical simulations, ultrasound, simulated patient encounters, and small group discussions. They will also participate in a small group session that will guide them through the process of identifying appropriate topics and activities, developing learning objectives, identifying settings and personnel, and preparing materials for student and faculty use. They will take home templates for use in developing each modality in addition to examples and materials developed during the break-out session.
