Description

Since the mid-1990s, the rise of the personal computer has completely changed the teaching landscape. Overhead projectors and whiteboards have been steadily replaced with digital screen projections. This evolution has brought with it a potential for students to view information in ways that were previously impossible.  As it happened, the advent of Microsoft Powerpoint and its ubiquitous use across the education sector has largely resulted in self-imposed limitation on the potential of digital learning. Static text with occasional illustrations remains the primary mode of presentation - a learning experience that is qualitatively indiscernible from using an overhead projector.   This session will upskill attendees in using the digital medium to its full potential and create immersive, engaging and informative teaching presentations. It will cover both theory and practicalities.   In addition, there will be sections on: 1.  What an individual can do themselves. This includes tips and tricks that can be incorporated into current learning environments (including Powerpoint!) to improve student learning and engagement. 2 . Looking at the opportunities that exist for Departments/Faculties/Universities that choose to strategically prioritise funding more resource-intensive learning experiences. Throughout the session there will be significant time set aside for small group discussion and where attendees can workshop and edit some of their already existing presentations.
