Description

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to: Describe the utility of organizing frameworks as educational tools for course design, content curation, and faculty development. Develop a draft organizing framework for their individual course content Articulate the benefits of and describe how to use their organizing framework to others   The purpose of this workshop is to introduce an innovative and no-cost/low-tech tool faculty can use to organize, streamline, and hand-off content in their course. As we continue the conversation in medical education about curating foundational science content and integrating clinical relevance in the pre-clinical years, using visual frameworks can provide structure and clarity to faculty and students.

The object of this workshop is for:

  • Faculty to become familiar with a new strategy to aid in their curriculum development as they approach course content in a non-linear way.   Medical educators are under pressure to balance teaching a large foundation of scientific knowledge to students while at the same time, reducing content and structured contact hours. Along with the challenges that faculty face in developing curriculum, students often struggle to identify the clinical context for their pre-clinical content. Structuring the course content using a visual framework allows faculty to highlight the clinical context of content and provides a structure for students to refer to as the continue on in their medical education.
