Dr. Dorothy Andriole received her MD degree from New York University School of Medicine, completed her general surgery training at NYU-Bellevue and Barnes Hospital -Washington University School of Medicine and completed a 2-year fellowship in surgical oncology at the NIH National Cancer Institute Surgery Branch. Prior to joining the AAMC 2 years ago, Dr. Andriole was a long-time faculty member at Washington University School of Medicine, where she held appointments as Associate Professor of Surgery and Assistant Dean for Medical Education. At Washington University, her educational research on U.S. medical students’ and graduates’ academic and professional development focused on physician-scientist workforce diversity. Since 2008, she and her joint-principal investigator had continuous R01 funding from the NIH National Institute of General Medical Sciences for this educational research work. Dr. Andriole was also the recipient of two Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Central Group for Educational Affairs (CGEA) project grants for her educational research. She is a 3-time winner of the Academic Medicine Excellence in Reviewing Award and in 2016 also received the Academic Medicine Master Reviewer Award. She joined the AAMC in January 2018 as the Senior Director for the newly created Medical Education Research unit, which is engaged in research focused on educational outcomes across the continuum.
