Bio
Dr. Poznanski received her BA in History of Science from Cornell University, her PhD in Anatomy and Developmental Biology from UCSF, and her postdoctoral training in Developmental Biology from UCSF, UC Berkeley and University of Virginia. She taught Anatomy, Embryology and Histology at Midwestern University in Arizona, became the Co-Director of the DOCARE medical mission to Guatemala, and became interested in pursuing medical training. She received her MD and residency training in Anatomical Pathology from University of Michigan. After completing her residency, she returned to medical education, first at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, where she was also the founding Director of the Center for Excellence in Medical Education (CEME). Dr. Poznanski led the development of successful programs in the CEME for training residents as teachers and physicians as scholars. Dr. Poznanski next became the Assistant Dean for Curriculum and Director of the Center for Research in Medical Education at California Northstate University College of Medicine. At California Northstate University College of Medicine, she was a leader in helping the school attain preliminary accreditation and successfully developed and implemented an innovative clinical presentation-based curricular program. In addition, she forged partnerships with and provided faculty development to practicing community physicians to foster their academic engagement. She was recruited by the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine of Washington State University to serve as the as the Associate Dean for Curriculum. At WSU, she led the design and implementation of a fully integrated innovative case-based medical curriculum. She is currently serving as a medical education consultant. She has served on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Anatomists and is currently serving on the Board of Directors for the International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE). Dr. Poznanski also serves on the leadership team for Aquifer Science (formerly MedU Science), a collaboration between Aquifer and IAMSE, that is building a national curriculum and a new virtual patient course to promote the effective integration of basic sciences into the clinical years of training. Dr. Poznanski is an alumnus of the Harvard Macy Program on Innovations in Healthcare and Medical Education, the Harvard Macy Program on Assessment and Evaluation, the AAMC Mid-Career Women Faculty Professional Development Seminar and the AAMC Organizational Leadership in Academic Medicine: An Executive Development Seminar for Associate Deans and Department Chairs.
