We investigated an innovative and interactive workshop approach that was used to engage early years medical students’ learning of basic immunology concepts through the use of relevant clinical scenarios and active learning.   METHODS An interactive clinically-based workshop was created to the existing lecture. The session was conducted using a combination of pre-learning activities, in-class interactive activities and post learning quiz in 2016. Kahoot! was used as a tool to engage and assess students’ learning. The process was modified for use in 2017 to 120 students. Students were invited to complete an online questionnaire anonymously at the completion of the session. Fifty one percent (45) students responded to the questionnaire. Descriptive analysis was performed on the data. RESULTS More than 90% of the students agreed that the use of relevant clinical applications helped in their understanding of the difficult immunological concepts and the use of Kahoot as a tool provided valuable and immediate feedback in their understanding. A total of 85 % agreed that the workshop enhanced their knowledge and understanding of key concepts in immunology. CONCLUSION Immunology is an important but difficult discipline to be truly appreciated by first and second year medical students. Adding clinical perspectives into basic immunological principles and concepts engages students in the learning; and the use of Kahoot as a tool enhances this learning further.
