Health professions education faculty needed to demonstrate the ability to quickly pivot from a primarily live, face-to-face learning environment to digital delivery of content and assessments. Much of these changes were done in the absence of formal faculty development or continuing professional development opportunities. This session will provide an opportunity to reflect on what was done and support sharing of global best practices by the presenters and participants. The faculty will provide examples of organizational and individual responses, and facilitate small group discussion(s) of lessons learned and how they can be incorporated into the practice of each of the participants. Case studies will be supplemented with best practice information to help facilitate transfer of the learning into practice. There will be a focus on learner engagement and creating learnable moments during digital learning.
Session Objectives:
- Review rapid responses by health professions educators moving from face-to-face to digital educational delivery due to COVID-19
- Outline best practices based on lessons learned during the pandemic as well as foundational principles
- Discuss methods to apply best practices in face-to-face, digital, and blended learning environments to ensure positive student and faculty experiences
- Employ principles of engagement during digital learning
