Publishing is increasingly important to academics working in medical education as a means to disseminate their practice and seek external validation of their own professional development. Currently a successful publication track record in appropriate scientific journals is used as a marker of academic rigor and frequently features within promotion criteria. However we argue that high quality publications in appropriate journals and books are more than steps to promotion. The skills required to develop and write for publication alongside understanding what constitutes a high calibre manuscript are essential medical education scholarship credentials. Furthermore the critical appraisal of medical education research and its outcomes are necessary to develop the field. Such a process should also ensure that all professionals, educators and their learners, are suitably equipped with the necessary academic tools to evaluate academic writing, network and collaborate effectively in writing for publication, and reflect on both giving and receiving constructive feedback during peer review. Participants will better understand the publication journey Participants will consider the varying activities to enhance publication success Participants will have an opportunity to practise and receive feedback on writing an abstract from a publication including constructing an appropriate title Participants will constructively peer review a paper and collaboratively provide feedback Participants will have opportunities to reflect on feedback received and consider how this enhances their own professional development.
