Louis N. Pangaro, M.D., MACP is Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda Maryland where he has served as Chair of Medicine and as Interim Dean. He has focused on improving the fairness and validity of evaluations in the clinical setting, introducing the concept of "synthetic", developmental frameworks - such as the Reporter-Interpreter-Manager-Educator framework - for defining expectations of students and residents. He created "standardized examinees" to calibrate the validity of the prototype clinical skills examination of USMLE. He has served on the editorial boards of Academic Medicine and Teaching and Learning in Medicine. In 2018 he received the John P. Hubbard Award from the NBME for excellence in the field of evaluation in medicine.
