Name
FS: AI Kickstart for Health Science Educators: Practical Tools to Get Started Today with AI
Description

Session Coordinator: Naunihal Zaveri

The explosion of AI applications in education and patient care leaves many health science educators unsure of where to start and how to incorporate AI into their work. Many learning opportunities often focus on presenting theories or specific patient care use, which can make an attempt to adapt AI even more daunting. AI can be a beneficial tool in the educator's tool belt, but like any tool, educators need to have training that highlights practical use and skills to use it effectively. AI can generate drafts of instruction materials, learning objectives, activities, and assessments in minutes, but only if the user knows what to do. This hands-on training session will take attendees from AI-curious to AI-users by providing step-by-step instructions, demonstrations, and application case studies using various AI tools. AI will continue to improve and expand over time, and we, as educators and life-long learners, should be ready to use this new tool in effective and meaningful ways.

The participants will be able to:
1. List at least five readily available AI tools that can assist educators and recognize their strengths and limitations
2. Discuss ideas on how and when to leverage AI tools in educator activities
3. Obtain step-by-step beginner-level instructions and tips on using common AI tools
4. Demonstrate selecting and using an AI tool to complete a common educator task

Through a short demonstration and hands-on exercises, participants will be equipped with time-saving AI tools, tips, and prompts to assist educator activities such as instruction and quiz preparation, survey design, and procedure guide/policy writing. In addition, the participants will be able to share their own examples of AI use and contribute to the list of readily available resources to be shared. By the end of this session, participants will have many practical applications of AI that they can implement immediately and use as a springboard for further exploration.
