Dr. Unoma Akamagwuna, is an assistant professor in the H. Ben Taub Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Baylor College of Medicine. She received her bachelor’s degree from Xavier University of Louisiana and her medical school training at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. She completed a combined residency program at the University of Colorado and is triple boarded in Pediatrics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine. Dr. Akamagwuna is an American Pediatric Association Quality and Safety Improvement Scholar and makes use of Quality Improvement methodology to continuously improve practice and care for her patients. She is also a current fellow in the Baylor College of Medicine Master Teacher Fellowship Program for faculty. She completed anti-racism training through The People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond and is a certified yoga teacher trained in the principles of Raja Yoga. She believes that equitable care for patients involves applying the principles of social justice to our healthcare practice. She currently serves as Fellowship Director for the Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine Program at Baylor College of Medicine.
