Bio
After thirteen years of medical and graduate school education, earning two doctorate degrees: M.D. in clinical medicine, PhD in biochemistry and molecular Biology; and one master's degree in histology and embryology, Dr. Bei Zhang embarked on her teaching career in a small liberal arts university in the deep south of the United States in 2004. Her commitment to education led her to become a certified medical laboratory scientist in 2010 while teaching medical laboratory science students. She was named the "professor of the year" at Thomas University in Georgia and received an instructional technology award at Michigan State University. Later, at The University of Vermont Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine, she became a master teacher through the Medical Education Fellowship Program. Dr. Zhang holds an ESME certificate in Medical Education from AMEE. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine. She serves as the director of the Master's Degree in Pathology, Innovative Curriculum Design and Instruction, and the Pathology Museum. As an accomplished education scholar, Dr. Zhang has regularly published and presented at national/international conferences in education and authored book chapters. In 2018 the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Science honored her as a Distinguished Author. She also received ABE Distinguished Scholar Award from The Association of Biochemistry Educators. She is currently editing an IAMSE manual book on problem-based learning with colleagues from LECOM, commemorating a transformative experience with exceptional medical educators in Florida.
