It is well established that leaders have a substantial impact on the collective well-being of their teams, which affects team function. However, most healthcare team leaders have not received preparation for their leadership role beyond their own experiences. This deficit in leadership preparation represents a gap in education that could be remedied with a properly designed curriculum. This presentation is a proposal for a leadership development program for early-stage health education learners based on the available literature and the presenter’s experience in healthcare leadership development. Particular attention is given to the unique role that health sciences educators can play in cultivating foundational leadership skills that result in the flourishing of learners who become leaders and members of their future teams.
