Description
PURPOSE: This presentation describes exploring flourishing practices and
interventions in graduate medical education and their potential to strengthen
resident well-being, resilience, and professional identity beyond burnout
prevention and toward building community.
 METHODS: We introduced the KNN
Framework for Flourishing with interconnected concepts of character, caring,
and practical wisdom along with a variety of research-backed interventions
aligned with ACGME competencies. Residents selected a flourishing practice or
intervention such as reflection, indexing, gratitude, goal setting, or
writing for a trial period. Data is collected through retrospective surveys,
focus groups, and interviews on the impact and convenience to incorporate it
into demanding schedules.
 RESULTS: Preliminary findings
indicate that incorporating flourishing practices promotes growth in
professional identity and self-efficacy, enhances resilience and coping
skills, and reduces anxiety and depression. These benefits may suggest that
encouraging a variety of flourishing practices and nurturing spaces for
sharing can help participants develop stronger relationships, improve
teamwork, and develop greater empathy and compassion toward colleagues and
patients within a challenging environment.
 CONCLUSIONS: By empowering residents
to develop personalized flourishing practices and use them to strengthen
community with colleagues, they become leaders and innovators in advancing a
culture of flourishing during medical training. We hope to further develop
the practical application of the KNN Framework for Flourishing and
Flourishing Practices within GME with their expertise and feedback.
