Description

Academic health science centers are complex organizations that provide a broad spectrum of possible opportunities for leaders. Educational leaders have the opportunity to address current and emerging issues in education and health care by designing, implementing, and evaluating health science innovations that will prepare learners to address the needs of patients and of communities. This workshop will enable participants to examine an expanded portfolio of career possibilities and identify concrete action steps to achieve their professional goals. In this highly interactive session, participants will engage in personal reflection, group discussions with peers and workshop facilitators, and hands-on exercises to expand and strengthen their developmental network, cultivate sponsorship relationships, and identify opportunities for scholarship to prepare them to assume their next educational leadership role. Attendees will leave with tools to evaluate leadership opportunities, say “yes and “no” intentionally, document and communicate their accomplishments and competencies as a leader, and effectively navigate key professional relationships. Participants will identify strategies to diversify their network, to be sponsored and sponsor others and will create an explicit personal professional development plan to advance towards their ideal leadership role. This workshop will also advance the career of the participants through providing time to network and to initiate potential mentoring and collaborative relationships amongst the attendees.
