Name
Workshop: The Power of Shared Team Mindset: How to Create, Strengthen, and Sustain Effective Science Teams
Date
Monday, July 24, 2023
Time
12:00 PM - 1:30 PM (EDT)
Description

The goal of this workshop is to introduce participants to a normative systems model of science teams (called Team Effectiveness Model for Science-TEMS) and demonstrate how the shared mutual learning mindset and norms, at the heart of the model, enable a team to integrate cross-disciplinary and other differences and to design its team processes and structures to achieve scientific productivity, improved working relationships, and individual member well-being.

Workshop Objectives

  1. Understand the three TEMS results of effective science teams and the factors that contribute to them.
  2. Understand and experience the differences between a unilateral control and mutual learning mindset and skillset and how mutual learning helps teams develop process and structure that addresses the science and team functioning that together create more effective team results.
  3. Understand how a team can use a shared mutual learning mindset and norms to (1) design its processes and structures; and (2) integrate disciplinary and other differences to increase its scientific productivity.
  4. Understand and experience how effective teams use a shared team mindset and norms to manage and self-correct their interactions in real-time.
