Workshop: Adapting TBL Strategies in Diverse Disciplines for Inclusive Classroom Learning
Date & Time
Monday, March 24, 2025, 9:30 AM - 11:15 AM
Description

This workshop is designed for both novice and experienced users of Team-Based Learning (TBL) who are looking to tailor TBL to the specific needs of their disciplines and student populations. Grounded in Michaelsen et al.’s foundational work on Team-Based Learning, participants will delve into strategies for modifying core TBL principles to enhance teaching and learning in diverse educational settings. The workshop will include a mix of hands-on activities and collaborative discussions, allowing participants to explore common classroom challenges and devise customized solutions tailored to their environments.

To support these adaptations, the workshop will incorporate principles of agile change leadership and transformative leadership. These frameworks will guide participants in managing classroom changes effectively while maintaining a quality learning environment. The focus will be on developing practical tools for navigating adaptation and change within the classroom, ensuring that TBL structures are flexible enough to address the unique demands of different disciplines and student groups.

By the end of the workshop, attendees will be equipped with strategies for adjusting TBL components—such as group formation, readiness assurance tests, and application activities—while staying true to the core philosophy of TBL. Participants will leave with a set of actionable steps for making TBL more responsive to their specific educational contexts, empowering them to create inclusive, engaging, and dynamic learning environments.
