Psychological safety is essential for high-functioning teams, yet many educators struggle to create environments where students feel comfortable speaking up, taking risks, or admitting confusion. Because TBL relies on open dialogue, peer challenge, and collaborative problem-solving, psychological safety is foundational for success.
This workshop introduces a TBL-aligned framework for diagnosing, designing, and repairing team dynamics using psychological safety principles. Participants begin with a readiness assurance process covering safety constructs and communication patterns that block learning. The core of the session is a 4S application scenario showing a breakdown in team safety. Teams evaluate the scenario using a structured analysis tool and select one of four evidence-based interventions such as a tone reset ritual or a structured turn-taking protocol.
Teams will then design personalized Safety-First TBL Protocols including opening routines, norms for disagreement, repair scripts, and vulnerability modeling strategies. This workshop directly supports “Methods, Mindsets, and Impacts” by equipping educators with tools that improve student confidence, shift teaching mindsets, and strengthen team learning.
