Description

2PDH- I intend to take a journey, briefly through the events leading up to the controversy between Lord Baltimore, Cecil Calvert, of Maryland and William Penn of Pennsylvania, and the subsequent survey of their boundary line which was settled by a pair of English Astronomer/Surveyors, Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon. This 82-year controversy lead to a line defined by the most accurate instruments and procedures of their day, over some of the most hostile territory of the time and took four years to complete. I will incorporate the use of Google Earth to aid in this story to give relevance to the massive undertaking of completing a task of this magnitude in an era in which the horse and wagon was the most modern mode of transportation.
