Professional Ethics for Professional Surveyors

This is a program built upon reviewing the definition of professional ethic and how ethics must be established and defined vs morals. This presentation also dives into the recently defined issue of “Ethical Fading” and how unethical practices can be unknowingly introduced into and organization and the process of ethical fading can creep into an organization under the stress of operating in the current environment.

Leadership for Professional Land Surveyors

"Leadership and Management for Professional Surveyors" focuses on developing the essential soft skills required to effectively lead and manage a surveying firm or department. Participants will explore strategies for fostering collaboration, building trust, and inspiring teams within a technical and professional environment. The course emphasizes communication, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills tailored to the unique challenges of surveying. Additionally, participants will learn how to nurture client relationships, navigate stakeholder expectations, and cultivate a culture of ethical integrity, innovation, and continuous growth, preparing them to lead with confidence and adaptability in a dynamic industry.

Meet the Presenter

Mack McCarty

Bio
Mack McCarty is a Professional Land Surveyor with extensive experience in surveying and mapping projects.

Mack earned his Professional Surveyor license by examination in West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, New Mexico, New Jersey, North Dakota, South Dakota, Maryland, and Colorado. He is also a Certified Federal Surveyor (CFeDs) and earned his Project Management Professional credential in 2020 after completing the required coursework and examination.
Prior to his current position, Mack served as Regional Surveying Director for Triad Engineering, Surveying Project Manager for Woolpert LLP, Project Surveyor for Chapman Technical Group, and Project Surveyor for Pray Construction. Mack began his surveying career as a student working on the construction layout crew at the Robert C. Byrd Locks project in Gallipolis Ferry.

Mack has been a longtime member of the West Virginia Society of Professional Surveyors, first joining in 1994. He has been active on the Board of Directors, serving as Director at Large, President, and currently Vice President. Mack is also a member of the WVSPS Greater Kanawha Valley Chapter, the WVSPS Little Kanawha Valley Chapter, and the Scioto Valley Chapter of the Professional Land Surveyors of Ohio.

In addition to WVSPS, Mack is active with the Huntington Post of the Society of American Military Engineers, where he has served as Director, President, Vice President, Young Member Chair, and General Membership Chair. In 2009, Mack was named a Fellow of the Society in recognition of his contributions to the Society and the profession.

Mack is a 1992 graduate of West Virginia Institute of Technology, where he studied under the world-renowned Carlyle Blomme. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Technology with a surveying tract, an Associate of Science in Surveying, and an Associate of Science degree.

Mack is a lifelong resident of Mason County and a graduate of Point Pleasant High School. He currently resides in Ashton with his wife of 26 years, Paula, and their sons, Connor and Daniel.
