Description
The need for reforms in healthcare education and services, moving towards a more patient-centred, interdisciplinary approach, has recently been at the forefront of international thinking (1). Interprofessional Education (IPE) is one approach which can prepare professionals for teamwork in the clinical environment (2). IPE occurs when students from two or more professions learn about, from and with each other (3). It facilitates effective communication and teamwork between professions, and is an increasingly popular method of enhancing the education of healthcare professionals in the developed world. In developing countries such as Malaysia however, IPE is not well established (4). This interactive Focus Session examines why IPE is used and how it can be delivered. It will focus on the practicalities of how to plan and execute IPE activities. Delegates will be provided with a framework to plan and resource the IPE sessions within their geographical and educational context. It will be an opportunity to work with delegates from different Medical and Health Science Education disciplines to design an IPE session outline.  References 1. Kahaleh et. al. 2015.
