Medical and Health Professions Education are witnessing revolutionary changes from conventional teaching to active methods of learning for enhancing learner engagement and comprehension. However, despite the introduction of these novel active learning strategies, many institutions are yet to implement these approaches effectively and efficiently in daily practice. The primary obstacle stems from a deficiency in adequately training educators about the significance of active learning and the implementation of these durable methods. Thus, faculty training is pivotal in bridging the gap between potential and practice to propel the field towards a more interactive and impactful educational landscape. Supported by evidence-based research, this focus session empowers medical and health science educators underscore the effectiveness of active learning aligning with cognitive science and the implementation into their teaching methods to foster meaningful, effective and lifelong learning.

By the end of this session, the participants will be able to i) understand different evidence-based active learning methods in health science education, ii) gain insights into application of constructivist learning theory in active pedagogy, iii) understand the neuroscientific perspective of how active learning can augment better understand through student engagement, vi) explain the significance of elaboration, generation and reflection in active learning in an evidence-based manner, v) gain insights into the process of implementation of active learning methods in classroom as well as virtual platforms, vi) gain insights into educators' and students' perspectives on augmenting student engagement and comprehension through active learning.
