Purpose
The Runway to Excellence program aims to address gaps in faculty development by integrating mentorship into a holistic educator development series. A collaboration between the Office of Faculty Affairs and Learning Innovation and the Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, the program promotes professional growth in teaching, scholarship, and leadership. Central to this initiative is a dynamic website that serves as a hub for resources, project support, and mentorship opportunities.
Methods
The program was designed based on a needs assessment conducted with faculty and institutional stakeholders. Its key components include: A longitudinal faculty development curriculum focusing on teaching methodologies, leadership, and scholarly activities. A structured mentoring network offering tailored pairings, group mentoring sessions, and regular feedback loops. A user-friendly website providing centralized access to faculty development resources, project support tools, and mentoring opportunities. Program outcomes were evaluated through surveys, focus groups, and website engagement analytics, with effectiveness measured by skill improvement, mentoring satisfaction, and scholarly output.
Results
Preliminary findings indicate that Runway to Excellence has significantly enhanced faculty development. Participants reported improved teaching and curriculum development skills, greater access to mentoring resources, and increased scholarly productivity. The mentoring component fostered meaningful mentor-mentee relationships and strengthened the sense of community. The program saw high engagement, serving as a critical tool for resource dissemination and equity-focused support. Notably, the program received positive feedback with over 90% attendance and survey data averages around 4.45 ratings (out of 5) for effectiveness and focus on professional growth.
Conclusion
Runway to Excellence illustrates the potential of collaborative faculty development programs. By integrating resources, mentorship, and equity-focused initiatives, the program effectively supports faculty growth and institutional priorities. Its replicable framework offers a model for enhancing faculty development while fostering a culture of equity and inclusion. Future efforts will focus on program expansion and data-driven refinement of mentorship and curriculum strategies.
