Description

Purpose
Medical students are increasingly utilizing third-party resources (3PRs).1,2 However, many faculty do not acknowledge or incorporate them into their curriculum, increasing the time students spend organizing study materials.3,4 This partnership aimed to integrate 3PRs into the pre-clerkship curriculum to create a cohesive and efficient learning experience.

Methods
At the conclusion of their first year, medical students completed a needs assessment identifying 3PRs used, challenges, and integration preferences. Based on this, a course to resource alignment map (CRAM) aligning pre-clerkship sessions with content from 3PRs (Boards and Beyond, Sketchy, Pathoma) was developed. With support from the offices of medical education and academic success and counseling, the CRAM was shared with students. To improve understanding of 3PRs, a faculty development session was delivered to course directors. Student tutors subsequently provided a consultation service to assist faculty. Process measures included tracking 3PR integration and utilization of tutor consultations. Faculty completed pre/post surveys to measure impacts on faculty attitudes. Impact of the CRAM will be explored via student survey one academic year after utilization.

Results
A post-faculty development session survey revealed no changes in faculty attitudes towards 3PRs; however, course directors (n=12) have utilized consultation services demonstrating openness toward integration.

Conclusions
Needs assessment results were consistent with the literature, with 65% of students (n=49) reporting organizing study materials as a challenge. We anticipate the majority of pre-clerkship students will have utilized the CRAM to find relevant learning resources while facilitating board preparation. Faculty have many demands, making it challenging to integrate resources. This model highlights how partnership between faculty, students, and other stakeholders optimizes the learning experience. A course to resource map, faculty development, and student-led consultations are approaches other medical schools can adapt to enhance integration of 3PRs.
