Purpose
Effective learning is often hindered by unclear or disjointed learning objectives. To address this, we implemented a redesign of courses at two different medical schools to incorporate a structured objective framework. This innovative approach ensures that learning objectives at the course, weekly, and session levels are interconnected, providing a clear pathway for student learning.

Methods
At both institutions, we employed a multi-step process: Course Level Objectives: Broad, overarching objectives were developed for each preclinical course, focusing on key foundational knowledge, clinical correlation, and problem-solving skills. Weekly Level Objectives: Specific learning goals were identified for each week of the course, aligning them with the course objectives. Session Level Objectives: Detailed objectives were created for each individual session, ensuring they directly contributed to the weekly and course objectives. A backward design approach ensured alignment between assessments, learning activities, and objectives.

Results
The implementation of a structured objective framework at both institutions has led to several positive outcomes. The first outcome was an improvement in clarity for the students. Students have expressed increased understanding of the course expectations and how individual sessions contribute to the overall learning goals. The second is enhanced alignment for the faculty. Faculty have greater focus and consistency in their teaching and assessment practices as they are all working towards the same objectives. In addition, the clear and interconnected nature of the objectives has motivated students to actively participate in class activities and independent study.

Conclusion
The integration of structured learning objectives into our preclinical courses has proven to be a valuable innovation. By providing a clear and structured learning pathway, we have enhanced student performance including self-study, and heightened curriculum coherence We encourage other medical educators to consider adopting this approach to improve their own courses.
