Purpose
Robust assessment of teaching is essential to ensure high-quality education and provide feedback for faculty to develop as educators. While student evaluations of teaching have well-documented limitations, self-assessment of teaching (SAT) has been proposed to integrate multiple perspectives and develop a more holistic approach to evaluating teaching. SAT helps educators identify their strengths and weaknesses and develop plans to address them; however, outcomes associated with SAT have not been examined. Accordingly, we are conducting a scoping review to answer: How are SATs being used by faculty and institutions of health professions education (HPE) and what outcomes are associated with their usage?

Methods
Following Joanna Briggs Institute's (JBI) methodology for scoping reviews, we developed a comprehensive scoping review protocol and search strategy in consultation with an experienced research librarian. We will conduct searches in MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, and ERIC databases, with no date or language restrictions.

Results
We have completed several key methodological steps of the scoping review: 1) Defined our population as faculty in HPE, including physician and eleven other health professions; 2) Established inclusion criteria for peer-reviewed articles examining SAT processes and outcomes; 3) Created a data extraction tool informed by JBI guidelines; 4) Identified relevant outcomes including teaching effectiveness evaluations, behavioral changes, promotion outcomes, and teaching achievements; and 5) Developed a protocol for dual independent review of articles. In addition to presenting a chronological flowsheet, we anticipate that the review and data extraction, including descriptive study details and key findings, will be completed for presentation by the time of the conference.

Conclusion
Our protocol demonstrates a systematic approach to examining SAT in HPE while simultaneously providing a methodological framework for other educators developing scoping reviews. This work-in-progress will help identify best practices and gaps in SAT implementation across HPE.
