Mercedes Byrd is uniquely qualified to facilitate this session as a Librarian at the Hope Brings Strength Health Science Library at Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine. She has worked closely with the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) administration, faculty, and students to enhance the information literacy of her many patrons; guiding students toward greater critical thinking, research, organizational and communication skills. Her background in education has provided key insights into the realm of self-assessment, instruction, and the responsible use of AI in education. Her work has led to the creation of multiple in-demand e-resources, tutorials, and guides that have increased the integration and outreach potential of library resources within the Rowan-Virtua SOM curricula. Her recent work on “Incorporating AI Tools to Enhance Information Literacy and Critical Thinking in First Year Medical Students” directly aligns with this session’s focus, making her an ideal facilitator for this timely topic in medical education.
