Bio
Corey Shafer is a fourth-year medical student at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine who has volunteered much of his time to improve medical education while advancing through his degree program. Having been a high school science teacher prior to medical school, he has a unique perspective on education being both a current student and former educator of Gen Z students. Throughout the past three years, he has been a peer tutor in multiple facets, from student organization skill sessions to helping facilitate anatomy labs. Outside of classroom teaching, was selected as a student representative for the Curriculum Committee’s M3 and M4 Sub-committee. This appointment has expanded further, including establishing a new clerkship evaluation process for medical students and supporting Dr. Sawarynski in her role as Assistant Dean for Accreditation and Continuous Quality Improvement. As he approaches his graduation and enters urology residency, he hopes to continue these efforts at the medical school level as well as expand into graduate medical education.
