Name
Workshop: An Interactive Review and Practical Evaluation of a UK-based Team Research/Team Science Training and Development Programme
Date
Monday, July 24, 2023
Time
1:45 PM - 3:15 PM (EDT)
Description

This interactive, hands-on workshop will provide particpants knowledge and experience of delivering an interdisciplinary Team Research* training and development Programme (TRP) in a UK University with a practical exercise and evaluation.

We will present findings and activities of the University of Manchester’s current Team Research training and development Programme (TRP), which is part of an institution-wide Research Culture Improvement Portfolio sponsored by the Vice President for research funded by Research England.

The workshop will be facilitated by the co-Principal Investigators of the programme (Stockton-Powdrell/Norris) who will share their experience of shaping and delivering the programme; a description of our activities and results to date; and plans for next steps. Both Norris (2018 and 2019) and Stockton-Powdrell (2019) have presented, and facilitated workshops at SciTS Conferences previously.

Participants will undertake and evaluate one of the programme’s activities: a group discussion exercise to understand community attitudes towards the definition/benefits/challenges and solutions of team research. Through this activity, we will gain insight about the international community’s attitudes; and participants will gain the skills to be able to implement the exercise with their communities. We also seek this expert community’s insights and feedback in the form of an open discussion evaluating the approach taken to the programme and the exercise.
