Description

The focus of this workshop is to showcase a novel approach to interprofessional education (Collaborative Practice I or CPI) for healthcare students enrolled at Case Western Reserve University during their first year in the program. We have used this design over the past two years. We will present Comprehensive CPI Participant Data and the number of students by profession for each year and the exploratory findings from the first year of the program.

Learning Objectives:

  1. To present a novel approach and design to foster evidence-based interprofessional teamwork education;
  2. To present a teamwork approach that weaves research and collaborative practice; and
  3. To present evidence-based team assessment, coaching and development.

Goals:

  1. To showcase a novel approach to interprofessional service learning and teamwork education;
  2. To engage in a healthy and deep discussion about such an approach; and
  3. To highlight an IPE program that forms partnerships between education, practice, local community, and research networks.

Expected Outcomes:

  1. A rich discussion on interprofessional teamwork education in healthcare;
  2. Provide participants with information about the design and assessments used in interprofessional teamwork education;
  3. Discuss techniques or methods to help interprofessional teams develop; and
  4. Discuss how to demonstrate clearly that teamwork training results in improved teamwork.
