Workshop Description
The goal of this basic workshop is to get informed about our journal. We will discuss the different types of articles offered by Medical Science Educator and their specific characteristics. The roles and responsibilities of the reviewer will be outlined and in a small group activity some examples of reviews will be provided and discussed. By the end of the workshop the participants will be able to identify the key steps in the review process, describe the 5 main article types in the journal and have a better sense of how a useful review looks.

Dr. Peter de Jong is a strategic advisor and senior researcher in the field of Technology Enhanced Learning at Leiden University Medical Center in The Netherlands, where he leads a team for the development, implementation and support of learning materials and where he provides strategic advice in the field of technology enhanced learning. His research interest is in the field of Online and Blended Learning in medical education. He authored several articles on the topic of the use of computers in education and online learning, and presented numeral oral, poster and workshop presentations. Peter is also interested in the topic of scientific education and the development of scientific engagement in medical students, on which he co-authored some articles and a book chapter together with Drs Ommering and Haramati (An Introduction to Medical Teaching, Third Edition, in press).

Machelle Linsenmeyer, Ed.D. is currently the Associate Dean for Assessment and Educational Development and Professor at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. In this capacity, she oversees many activities including testing/assessment/surveying, curriculum mapping, competency tracking, academic technology, faculty development, program evaluation and educational research. Dr. Linsenmeyer’s initiatives encompass the entire span of medical education from undergraduate to graduate medical education. She has over a decade of experience in the medical education profession serving nationally as a fellow in the National Association of Osteopathic Medical Educators (secretary), AACOM EPA Steering Committee (Chair), NBOME Portfolio and Special Assessment Taskforce (member), and previous program planning committee member for both The Generalists in Medical Education and the International Association of Medical Science Educators. She is an associate editor, an author, and both national and international speaker discussing various medical education topics also spanning her broad background.

Marjo Wijnen-Meijer, PhD studied educational sciences in Utrecht (Netherlands). She has been working in medical education since 2005, until 2018 in the Netherlands (Utrecht and Leiden). She has experience in management, educational research, faculty development and the development of curricular concepts. Since 2018, she joined the Medical Education Center of the Technical University in Munich. She is team leader of the curriculum development team, supervises research projects, leads the project "Introduction of Entrusted Professional Activities" and is involved in a project to motivate students for family medicine, especially in the rural areas of Bavaria.
