International immersion experiences can be transformative professional development opportunities for current and future educators, particularly in the field of agricultural education. These international experiences often include visits to educational institution and sometimes include discussions with local teachers in the hosting community. However, such interactions can sometimes remain surface-level, limiting the depth of cultural and professional exchange. To address this, a co-teaching engagement strategy can facilitate meaningful collaboration between U.S. educators and their counterparts in host countries. The co-teaching strategy pairs a U.S. teacher with a teacher from the host country and tasks them with collaboratively designing and delivering a lesson in an agricultural classroom. This process requires educators to engage in deep conversations about educational philosophies, teaching methods, classroom culture, and current agriculture issues or policy. Through this collaboration, participants confront and bridge differences in pedagogical approaches, learning from one another while navigating cultural and linguistic nuances. Co-teaching promotes reciprocal professional growth, as educators from both countries gain insight into alternative teaching practices and develop a more nuanced understanding of global education systems. Host country educators report enhanced professional confidence and appreciation for new instructional strategies, while U.S. participants often cite a heightened awareness of cultural diversity and its implications for teaching. Additionally, the students who receive these co-taught lessons benefit from an enriched learning experience that incorporates diverse perspectives. This presentation will outline the structure of the co-teaching model, share key lessons learned from its implementation, and discuss its potential as a replicable engagement strategy in other educational contexts. By moving beyond traditional school visits, the co-teaching approach creates opportunities for genuine cross-cultural dialogue and professional exchange, empowering educators to apply globally informed practices in their classrooms.
