Name
Workshop: Building from the Foundation Up: Strategic Planning for Everyone
Date
Tuesday, July 30, 2024
Time
10:00 AM - 1:30 PM (EDT)
Description

Team research – particularly inter-, multi, and transdisciplinary – is most effective when a diversity of perspectives, experience, and knowledge are brought to collaborative efforts. While success may be evaluated in a variety of ways, achieving desired outcomes hinges on shared understanding of mission, goals, and metrics. This holds true regardless of project size, scope, or context.

Accompanied by a workbook developed for the UC Davis Research Development Services team, participants will gain a practical foundation for strategic planning and build a custom framework in real time that can be adapted and applied to their own fields and projects.

PART ONE
In this workshop, participants will apply the knowledge gained through a series of guided exercises to:
1. Draft and develop unique vision and mission statements;
2. Craft focused strategies in alignment with achieving their vision and mission; and
3. Establish actionable, measurable, forward-looking goals and identify specific tasks and activities necessary to accomplish them.
At the end of the workshop, attendees will have created a framework for their own unique strategic plan and be able to utilize guiding questions to continue its development to completion.

PART TWO
Participants will further build on the strategic plan framework created in Part One by addressing implementation considerations. Through additional guided and exercises and independent work sessions, they will:
1. Explore scenarios for practical implementation; and
2. Generate a roadmap of investment for the resources needed to achieve their goals, mission, and vision.
