This workshop is focused on developing practical skills in organizing and facilitating science gatherings. The workshop advances the SciTS field by sharing frameworks, practices, and stories of effective science gatherings, and utilizing them to develop practical skills the audience can use to improve the effectiveness of science gatherings in various contexts.
Workshop Goal: Equip participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in applying diverse frameworks, tools, and techniques essential for organizing science gatherings.
Objective 1: Discuss field-tested frameworks and practices in organizing science meetings
- Outcome 1: Participants will be able to explain key frameworks such as Objectives and Key Results (OKR) and Responsibility Assignment Matrix (RACI)
- Outcome 2: Participants will consider applications of the frameworks and practices in team science contexts
Objective 2: Present specific facilitation skills and techniques used in hosting science gatherings and how they can be applied to various scenarios.
- Outcome 1: Participants will discover practical skills and techniques that they can implement when hosting science gatherings (eg. how to hold energetic boundaries of the social system, how to utilize principles of engagement to strengthen the social field).
- Outcome 2: Participants will be able to consider how skills and techniques can be applied to real-life l scenarios.
Objective 3: Provide participants with practice in applying the discussed frameworks and techniques to real-life scenarios through the use of guided design challenges.
- Outcome 1: Participants will be able to employ the RACI and OKR frameworks and facilitation skills and techniques in their practice.
