In complex scientific environments, the tensions we encounter—such as task :: relationship, assert :: accept, or advocacy :: inquiry—are seldom problems to solve. They are polarities to navigate. This highly interactive workshop introduces a both/and approach to leadership that helps scientific teams move beyond limiting beliefs, reduce defensiveness, and collaborate with greater clarity, compassion, and adaptability. Through guided reflection, breakout dialogue, and hands-on practice with the Polarity Navigator, participants will explore how their own beliefs shape team dynamics and discover new ways to access freedom, possibility, and shared wisdom. The session is designed to build individual insight while strengthening collective sensemaking—an essential capability for thriving in interdisciplinary and uncertain research contexts. In this interactive workshop, participants will learn to recognize and reframe limiting beliefs through polarity thinking, uncovering the deeper interdependent tensions that shape scientific teamwork. They will build practical skill in navigating polarities through guided reflection, small-group dialogue, and hands-on practice with the Polarity Navigator—strengthening their ability to shift from defensiveness to curiosity and from either/or habits to both/and leadership. Together, these practices will enhance collaborative capacity and complexity-minded leadership, enabling participants to better integrate diverse perspectives, foster alignment, and lead more effectively in interdisciplinary research environments.
