Dr. Burns is a leader in faculty development promoting success in the evolving educational environment including both in person and virtual classrooms. He emphasizes preparing students for enduring professional careers by promoting life-long learning habits and linking underlying biomedical science knowledge to clinical skills. He has expertise in faculty development for collaborative learning across medical and health science school preclinical curricula, particularly facilitation, curriculum design, and leadership. He has honed his own facilitation skills using PBL/TBL for nearly two decades drawing inspiration from improv theater and jazz music.
