Description

Later life has often been characterized as a psychologically inert. Yet some of the highest rates of suicide are among older adults as well as an uptick in clinical depression, anxiety disorders and substance use, most notably alcohol. In an effort to better understand this apparent paradox, this presentation will offer a developmental perspective emphasizing the unique psychic and psychosocial challenges facing older adults and how these characteristics affect their clinical presentation and treatment options.
