Kevin Brockett Bob Andriotto
Description

Presentation of theory and applications related to computing the local direction of Astronomical North based on observations of Polaris. Basic outline of celestial orientation systems, explanation of sources of relevant time and ephemeris data, and discussion of precision levels necessary for an accurate determination of azimuths referenced to the True North meridian. Suggestions and tips for field work. Guided practice of computational procedures utilizing actual field data. General overview of related historical surveying methods. (Please bring a scientific calculator.)
