ESME Report leading to the ESME Certificate

Following completion of the ESME Course, and after returning to their institutions, participants may choose to submit a short report describing the application of the ESME themes and competencies in their own teaching practice. Submission of a report that meets the required standards will be recognized by award of the ESME Certificate in Medical Education. Completion of the ESME Certificate is a required step for enrolment in the IAMSE Medical Educator Fellowship.

This course is only open to IAMSE members.  If you are interested in this course and not yet a member of IAMSE, this is an opportune time to join. The tuition includes:

  • Access to ESME online resource materials, including selected AMEE Guides, in electronic format;
  • Participation in live Zoom ESME discussions sessions held throughout the course facilitated by one of the course leaders, and in asynchronous communications;
  • Opportunities to communicate directly with course leaders and peers to discuss concepts and case studies;
  • An ebook copy of Essential Skills of a Medical Teacher, 3rd Edition, by Harden & Laidlaw
  • Opportunity to submit a short report to fulfill the requirements for the ESME Certificate in Medical Education.

What's the cancellation policy?
Refund requests must be received in writing by September 30, 2021. No refunds will be made after that date. 

Who Should Participate?
The program is designed for medical science educators who have not yet completed an ESME program, and are seeking to become more knowledgeable as educators and leaders.  The ESME course is also a prerequisite for participation in the IAMSE Fellowship Program.

What resources are required for each module?
The core resources required for each module would include short video recordings and the relevant chapters in the 3rd edition of Essential Skills for a Medical Teacher.  Additional resources would include AMEE and BEME Guides and other reference materials

Is this course being given live or virtually?
This course will be a combination of asynchronous independent self-study to do on your own, and virtual Zoom sessions. We will meet via Zoom for discussion after every other module, and at the end of the course for summary and review. Please refer to the course schedule on the homepage for details.
