Meeting Facts
Each year, GRIPE members come together in an annual meeting to share experiences and resources to promote in undergraduate and graduate pathology education. These meetings have resulted in the development of shared teaching resources such as the GRIPE Digital Library and faculty development materials. In addition, these meetings provide a forum to discuss medical education innovations and research, highlighting advances in technology and curricular reforms.

Paulo Saldiva, MD, PhD received his MD from the University of Sao Paulo School of Medicine in 1977 and PhD in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology from the University of Sao Paulo in 1983. He is currently a Professor of Pathology at the University of Sao Paulo School of Medicine and Director of the University’s Institute for Advanced Studies.
Dr. Saldiva made his scientific career on environmental pathology and the impacts of air pollution in human health. He is a leading researcher in this area and works on implementing scientific information in public policies to improve human health in megacities and metropolitan areas. Dr. Saldiva is a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the World Meteorological Association, World Health Organization, and member of the Urban Meteorology and Environment Science Advisiory Group from WMO. He is also a member of the Brazilian Sciences Academy and National Academy of Medicine. He has two sons, plays harmonica and is a passionate bicycle rider.

Husain Sattar, MD, is a surgical pathologist with particular skill and experience in breast and gynecologic pathology. Also an active educator and lecturer, Dr. Sattar is the associate director of the clinical pathophysiology and therapeutics course at the Pritzker School of Medicine. In this role, he serves as a dedicated instructor, advisor and mentor to second-year medical students, in addition to teaching a pathology review course that he developed. He has also authored several published research articles and abstracts in peer-reviewed medical journals.
Dr. Sattar is recognized by students and peers for his excellence as an educator at the Pritzker School of Medicine. He is a regular recipient of teaching awards, including the Outstanding Basic Science Teaching Award, pre-clinical teaching awards, and the Favorite Faculty Award.
