Personnel from the USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) will provide information on the portfolio of grants related to teaching and learning that support, faculty, colleges, universities, and students in providing and receiving high-quality education that produces and enables capable graduates to strengthen and enhance the nation’s food and agricultural scientific and professional workforce. This includes Higher Education Challenge (HEC), Multicultural Scholars (MSP), Non-Land Grant Colleges of Agriculture (NLGCA), Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), Research and Extension Experiences for Undergraduates (REEU, AFRI EWD), K-14 programs [Professional Development for Agricultural Literacy (PDAL), Secondary Education, Two-Year Postsecondary Education, and Agriculture in the K-12 Classroom Challenge Grants (SPECA)], National Needs Fellowships (NNF), Pre- and Post-doctoral Fellowships, as well as the Food and Agricultural Education Information System (FAEIS). Discussion and hands-on activities will focus on grant and project types, the review process, and strategies for success related to the scholarship of teaching and learning. Interactive elements of the workshop include choosing the appropriate funding opportunity for your idea, molding your idea to the specific requirements of the Request for Application (RFA), developing a logic model to identify key components of the proposal, and a mini mock peer review panel.
