The aim of this workshop is to highlight the benefits of asking TBL teams to submit written team comments on the rationale for their choice during application exercises. Although submission of rationale is not standard practice during application exercises, this practice has been implemented at the University of Bradford in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes with positive results. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss the practicalities of implementing the use of rationales in their TBL practice, discuss the benefits and challenges, and assess the value of written rationales in developing learners’ critical thinking during application exercises. This may be particularly valuable in courses where it is important that students develop critical thinking.
