Proposed Bylaw Change

The WVAGP Election Committee would like to submit for review a proposed amendment to WVAGP members so that the proposed amendment can be considered, and hopefully, formally approved at the 2019 meeting. Consideration of the amendment will specifically included in the meeting call. At which time the amendment can be voted on and be accepted or revisions could be requested and then at the meeting or shortly thereafter, the amendment resubmitted.

The specifics of how an election is conducted is not specified in the by-laws but is the purview of the election committee.  However, the by-laws explicitly state mail ballots, which inhibits adjustments the committee can carry out to improve voting figures.  The Election Committee want to add the ability to explore conducting elections by electronic ballot.  Electronic could mean email, website form, voting machine, etc.  It opens the by-laws up to the committee (with the approval of the board) to adjust over time, while always having the option of using mail. It would allow the committee more options and allow the current and future committee members to change with the growth of the WVAP and professional practices without having to request multiple future amendments.

The amendment we wish to make is to change the wording from:

B. ELECTIONS: 1. The election of directors shall be by mail ballot, subject to the right of a member to deposit his or her properly sealed ballot directly with the treasurer or his or her designee before the election meeting is called to order.

To this wording:
The election of directors shall be by mail or electronic ballot, subject to the right of a member to deposit his or her properly sealed ballot directly with the treasurer or his or her designee before the election meeting is called to order.
The vote will take place during the Annual Meeting on Tuesday, May 14th. If you have any questions, please contact Barbara Maclennan barbmaclennan@gmail.com
