NACTA 2025 Awards Program
Each year at the NACTA Annual Conference, award recipients are invited to the Awards Dinner, which takes place on the last full day of programing. At the dinner, those who received one or more of the following awards are formally recognized and receive a plaque, a premium certificate, or a standard certificate depending on the award. A full description of each award given during the Annual Conference can be found below. When the winners of each award are announced, they will be added to this page or the website as well as the Conference App.

Distinguished Educator Award
Distinguished Educator Award
Purpose
To recognize meritorious service to NACTA and to higher education through teaching, educational research, and/or administration.
Eligibility
- Applicants must hold a current membership in NACTA or must join NACTA by February 1 of the award year to be eligible. Applicants who are not paid NACTA members by February 1 will be ineligible to receive the award and will not have their applications reviewed.
- Nominee must have 10 or more years of service to higher education.
- Award recipients are expected to attend the NACTA Conference in order to received their award. There is no funding for travel associated with this award.
Criteria for Applications
- A letter of nomination (2 pages), which should include summarized content under the following two headings:
- Service to and recognition by the higher education community
- Service to and recognition by NACTA
- Three letters of support. Each letter should be one page in length.
- Nominee's resume/CV.
Materials must be submitted via the online form by November 1 at 11:59 PM ET.
Special Instructions
Awardees are expected to be present at the NACTA Annual Conference to receive their award. A consent of nomination implies that the nominee has an intention and, if selected for an award, will attend the conference.
A professional photograph and short biography (not to exceed 150 words) of each award recipient should be included in the nomination form. The photo and biography will be included in the NACTA Awards Booklet for the conference.

Excellence in Teaching and Learning with Technology Award
Excellence in Teaching and Learning with Technology Award
Purpose
The Excellence in Teaching and Learning with Technology Award is made possible through the generosity of Cengage Learning. This award is presented to one individual who demonstrates excellence in using technology to enhance post-secondary instruction in agriculture.
Eligibility
- Applicants must hold a current membership in NACTA or must join NACTA by January 15 of the award year to be eligible. Applicants who are not paid NACTA members by January 15 will be ineligible to receive the award and will not have their applications reviewed.
- Nominee must be on full-time appointment involving at least 25% teaching.
- Award recipients are expected to attend the NACTA Conference in order to received their award. There is no funding for travel associated with this award.
Criteria for Applications
- A cover page, which should include the following information:
- Name, title, professional address, telephone number, e-mail address of the nominator;
- Name, title, professional address, telephone number, e-mail address of the nominee;
- "Excellence in Teaching and Learning with Technology Award Nomination" should be included on the cover page;
- Cover letter addressed to the Chair of the Teacher Recognition Committee, written by either the nominator or nominee, addressing the following:
- Evidence of a current, active NACTA membership for at least two of the past three years.
- Evidence of teaching appointment involving at least 25% teaching for at least two of the past three years. A statement by an academic administrative officer will suffice.
- An essay by the nominee describing the integration and use of technology to support effective teaching and learning in a specific course offered on-campus or via distance education. This must not exceed five pages.
- A statement of about the impact of technology integration on student learning, student motivation, and student creativity in the classroom.
- Completed Teacher Evaluation form from three current/former students who are currently enrolled or have completed the technologically enhanced course.
- A completed Administrative Officer Evaluation form from an administrator directly related to the nominee's teaching activities that specifically discussed the nominee's utilization of technology in their teaching.
- A completed Peer Evaluation form from a faculty peer discussing the nominee's utilization of technology in their teaching.
- Samples of course materials reflecting the integration of technology in a specific course (such as excerpts from syllabi, assignments, projects, student portfolios, links to course content, audio or video materials, etc), limited to 5 pages.
- A self-evaluation from the nominee on the following:
- Considerations in the integration of technology specific to their course,
- Outcomes of the technologically enhanced course as compared to other courses delivered using more traditional pedagogy,
- Scholarly activities and professional development specific to technology integration,
- Challenges that have been encountered specific to technology integration and how they have been addressed,
- Future plans for technology integration efforts,
- Departmental, college, and university efforts specific to technology integration, and/or mentorship of other faculty members in technology integration.
- A description of the nominee's most memorable teaching experience.
- Nominee's resume/CV, limited to 4-pages total.

It is expected that the winner of this award will submit an abstract for a future NACTA Conference presentation on the innovative use of technology in their teaching.

Global Engagement Award
Global Engagement Award
Objective
To recognize meritorious activity in the area of Global Engagement through teaching, educational research, and/or administration.
Eligibility
Early Career Award: Nominee must be a current member of NACTA with meritorious activities directly related to Global Engagement internationally and/or domestically within the first 7 years of academic service.
Distinguished Career Award: Nominee must be a current or retired NACTA member and have ten or more years of service to higher education with meritorious activities directly related to Global Engagement internationally and/or domestically.
Criteria
Nominations will be accepted from any NACTA member. Examples of candidate activities would include:
- Leading studies abroad and/or travel-study
- Hosting international visitors and associated-activities
- Teaching global competencies in a classroom or other experiential setting
- Global engagement research
- Coordination of international activities as an administrator
- Other global engagement activities

- Letter of Reference from one Global and/or Multicultural Partner.
- Letter of Reference from one Student who has been a part of nominees’ Global Engagement.
- Self-evaluation of role in various Global Engagement activities (not all forms of engagement are required- mark N/A for those not involved in)
- Leading studies abroad and/or travel-study
- Hosting international visitors and associated-activities
- Teaching global competencies in a classroom or other experiential setting

Graduate Student Teaching Award
Graduate Student Teaching Award
Purpose
The purpose of the NACTA Graduate Student Teaching Award is to recognize and reward graduate students who excel as teachers in the agricultural disciplines and who are involved in classroom instruction. The NACTA Graduate Student Teaching Award is a criterion-based award and is reviewed by a committee of NACTA members. Criteria included in the evaluation are the graduate student's teaching philosophy, statement of support from supervising faculty, evaluations submitted by students and an administrative officer, a self-evaluation, involvement in teaching outside the classroom, and a description of the candidate's specific teaching involvement. Recipients receive a certificate.
Eligibility
- Applicants must hold a current Graduate Student Membership in NACTA or must join NACTA by January 15 of the award year to be eligible. Applicants who are not paid NACTA members by January 15 will be ineligible to receive the award and will not have their applications reviewed.
- Nominee must have been involved in classroom instruction (including laboratory and discussion sections) for a minimum of one year (2 semesters or 3 quarters) or the equivalent.
- Must be a graduate student in good academic standing.
- Award recipients are expected to attend the NACTA Conference in order to received their award. There is no funding for travel associated with this award.
Criteria for Applications

- Name, title, professional address, telephone number, e-mail address of the nominee;
- "Graduate Student Teaching Award Nomination" should be included on the cover page;

- A complete description of nominee's specific teaching involvement.
- A self-evaluation of nominee's teaching activities (e.g., what was done well and where could improvements be made).
- A summary of student evaluations of teaching (if available), plus completed Teacher - Current Student or Teacher Alumnus/Alumna forms from 3 current or former students.
- A completed Graduate Student Evaluation Form from a faculty member directly involved in the nominee's teaching activities.
- A completed Graduate Student Evaluation Form from an administrator directly related to the nominee's teaching activities.
- A statement about nominee's involvement in activities related to teaching outside of the classroom (clubs, review sessions, committees, etc.).
- A description of the nominee's most memorable teaching experience.
- Nominee's resume/CV, limited to 4-pages total.

Judging and Student Service Award
Judging and Student Service Award
Purpose
The NACTA Judging and Student Service Award is presented to a faculty member who has provided exceptional service to students, with special emphasis on those coaching competitive judging teams who have participated in the annual NACTA Judging Conference. Other areas of consideration include involvement in other student service activities, teaching accomplishments, and integration of the nominees judging program and activities with the overall academic experience and institution’s mission.
Eligibility
- Applicants must hold a current membership in NACTA or must join NACTA by January 15 of the award year to be eligible. Applicants who are not paid NACTA members by January 15 will be ineligible to receive the award and will not have their applications reviewed.
- Nominee must have been involved with coaching competitive teams in the annual NACTA Judging Conference for a minimum of 5 years.
- Award recipients are expected to attend the NACTA Conference in order to received their award. There is no funding for travel associated with this award.
Criteria for Applications
- A cover page, which should include the following information:
- Name, title, professional address, telephone number, e-mail address of the nominator;
- Name, title, professional address, telephone number, e-mail address of the nominee;
- "Judging and Student Service Nomination" should be included on the cover page;
- Cover letter addressed to the Chair of the Teacher Recognition Committee, written by either the nominator or nominee, which provides details of the nominee's membership in NACTA and length of involvement in the NACTA Judging Conference.
- A statement of the nominee's involvement and contributions to the NACTA Judging Conference, not to exceed two pages.
- A summary of the nominee’s activities and accomplishments in teaching and other student service activities, not to exceed two pages.
- A statement of the nominee's personal philosophy on student service, not to exceed two pages.
- Evidence showing how coaching judging teams and other student service activities have enhanced the academic experience for students. This should also detail how the nominee's judging program integrates with the curriculum and contributes to the academic mission of the institution, not to exceed two pages.
- Letters of support from 3-4 current or recent (within the past 5 years) former students. Students should also complete the Teacher Evaluation form.
- A completed Administrative Officer Evaluation form from an administrator directly related to the nominee's teaching and student service activities.
- A completed Peer Evaluation form and supporting statement from a faculty peer.
- A self-evaluation of nominee's teaching activities to include the following sections:
- availability to students
- ability to attract and motivate students
- use of current, innovative student service methods
- scholarly activities related to student service
- activity in departmental/institutional affairs
- activity in community service
- professional service in nominee's academic discipline

Murray Brown Leadership Award
Murray Brown Leadership Award
Purpose
To recognize one member per year for a distinguished and sustained record of NACTA leadership.
Eligibility
- Applicants must hold a current membership in NACTA or must join NACTA to be eligible. Applicants who are not paid NACTA members will be ineligible to receive the award and will not have their applications reviewed.
- Nominee must have served in a leadership role within NACTA.
- Award recipients are expected to attend the NACTA Conference in order to received their award. There is no funding for travel associated with this award.
- The current NACTA President-Elect, President, and Immediate Past President serve as the selection committee and are not eligible during their time of service on the selection committee.
Criteria for Applications
- A letter of nomination (2 pages), which should document the nominee's exemplary leadership in NACTA.
- Three letters of support. Each letter should be one page in length.
- Nominee's resume/CV.

NACTA Educator Award
NACTA Educator Award
Purpose
One of the central purposes of NACTA (North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture) is to recognize those individuals whose efforts represent the very best in agricultural higher education. The NACTA Educator Award is a criterion-based award and is reviewed by a committee of NACTA members. Recipients receive a certificate.
NOTE: If you have received the NACTA Teacher Fellow Award from in the past, you are not eligible for the NACTA Educator Award.
Eligibility
- Applicants must hold a current membership in NACTA or must join NACTA by January 15 of the award year to be eligible. Applicants who are not paid NACTA members by January 15 will be ineligible to receive the award and will not have their applications reviewed.
- Nominee must have been on a full-time appointment involving at least 25% teaching for a minimum of 3 of the past 5 years.

NACTA Teaching Scholar Award
NACTA Teaching Scholar Award
Purpose
The NACTA Teaching Scholar Award is presented to a maximum of 1% of the NACTA membership body. These individuals should demonstrate a heavier commitment to NACTA since earning the NACTA Educator Award and be clear about their involvement with NACTA, the NACTA Journal, and our NACTA annual conference. Individuals seeking this award should also demonstrate a teaching influence beyond their own campus.
Eligibility
- Applicants must hold a current membership in NACTA or must join NACTA by January 15 of the award year to be eligible. Applicants who are not paid NACTA members by January 15 will be ineligible to receive the award and will not have their applications reviewed.
- Nominee must currently be on a full-time appointment involving at least 25% teaching.
- Award recipients are expected to attend the NACTA Conference in order to received their award. There is no funding for travel associated with this award.
Criteria for Applications
- A cover page, which should include the following information:
- Name, title, professional address, telephone number, e-mail address of the nominator;
- Name, title, professional address, telephone number, e-mail address of the nominee;
- "NACTA Teaching Scholar Award Nomination" should be included on the cover page;
- Cover letter addressed to the Chair of the Teacher Recognition Committee, written by either the nominator or nominee addressing:
- Evidence of at least three years of membership within NACTA.
- Evidence of a full-time appointment involving at least 25% teaching for at least 5 of the past 7 years. A statement by an academic administrative officer will suffice.
- Evidence that the nominee received the NACTA Educator or the NACTA Teacher Fellow Award at least two years prior to being nominated for this award. Letter must clearly state when the nominee received the Teacher Fellow or NACTA Educator Award.
- A statement of the nominee's teaching philosophy, not to exceed five double-spaced pages.
- A summary of student evaluations of teaching for the most recent 3 of 5 years, plus letters of support from 2-3 current or recent former students. Students should complete the Teacher Evaluation form.
- A completed Administrative Officer Evaluation form from an administrator directly related to the nominee's teaching activities.
- A completed Peer Evaluation form from a faculty peer. It's even better if this is done by peers outside of your institution.
- A self-evaluation of nominee's teaching activities to include the following sections:
- availability to students
- ability to attract and motivate students
- use of current, innovative and effective teaching methods
- current in subject matter, including relevance to agricultural, environmental, natural and life sciences
- scholarly activities related to teaching
- participation in departmental, institutional and profession affairs
- outreach and engagement related to teaching

Teaching Award of Excellence

Purpose
The NACTA Teaching Award of Excellence is presented to one individual who demonstrates excellence in post-secondary instruction in agriculture.

- Nominee must have previously received either the NACTA Teacher Fellow or NACTA Educator Award.
- Nominee must be on full-time appointment involving at least 25% teaching.
- Award recipients are expected to attend the NACTA Conference in order to received their award. There is no funding for travel associated with this award.

- Name, title, professional address, telephone number, e-mail address of the nominator;
- Name, title, professional address, telephone number, e-mail address of the nominee;
- "Teaching Award of Excellence Nomination" should be included on the cover page;
- Cover letter addressed to the Chair of the Teacher Recognition Committee, written by either the nominator or nominee, addressing the following:
- Evidence of a current, active NACTA membership and teaching appointment involving at least 25% teaching for at least five of the past seven years. A statement by an academic administrative officer will suffice.
- The year the nominee received the NACTA Teacher Fellow Award or the NACTA Teaching Educator Award (must have been at least 3 years prior to applying).
- A statement of the nominee's teaching philosophy, not to exceed five double-spaced pages.
- A statement of the nominee's promotion and enhancement of teaching at the university, state, regional and/or national level.
- A summary of student evaluations of teaching for the most recent 3 years. Students should complete the Teacher Evaluation form if the university doesn't have an in-house teacher evaluation system.
- Evaluations of the nominee's teaching by recent (within the last 5 years) alumni. At least 5 but no more than 10 evaluations by recent graduates should be provided using the Teacher Evaluation Alumni Form.
- At least 1 but no more than 3 completed Administrative Officer Evaluation form from an administrator directly related to the nominee's teaching activities.
- At least 1 but no more than 3 completed Peer Evaluation form from faculty peers.
- A self-evaluation of the nominee's professional involvement within NACTA. This may be in the form of an essay, but is not to exceed 3 pages.
- A self-evaluation of nominee's teaching activities to include the following sections:
- availability to students
- ability to attract and motivate students
- use of current, innovative and effective teaching methods

- scholarly activities related to teaching
- participation in departmental, institutional and profession affairs
- outreach and engagement related to teaching
- student related activities (e.g., student recruitment, Club Advisor, etc.)
- A description of the nominee's most memorable teaching experience.
- Nominee's resume/CV, limited to 4-pages total.
Special Instructions
Awardees are expected to be present at the NACTA Annual Conference to receive their award. A consent of nomination implies that the nominee has an intention and, if selected for an award, will attend the conference.
A professional photograph and short biography (not to exceed 150 words) of each award recipient should be included in the nomination form. The photo and biography will be included in the NACTA Awards Booklet for the conference.
Submission Information
For each nominee, upload one single PDF file that includes all nomination materials (all documents, letters of support, teaching evaluations and other relevant documents) on the electronic submission form by the submission deadline.
We will only accept one PDF file for each nomination, and will not combine your materials into one file if you upload multiple files for each nominee. Evaluations of all nominees will be conducted electronically by past award winners.
Recognition
Recipient(s) will be recognized at the Annual NACTA Conference and will receive a plaque.
Deadline for Submission
All nomination materials must be received by January 15 at 11:59 PM EST.
