Push and Pull:
Navigating Strains in Health Education
In an era of rapid transformation in medical education driven by social and technological changes, the Fall 2024 IAMSE Webinar Series brings together leading experts to discuss challenging topics of innovation and reform.
The series will begin by addressing the importance of increasing the representation of disabled physicians in medicine, emphasizing the need for systemic changes and resilience-building among students. Following this, educators from diverse institutions will share their experiences and insights on approaching curricular reform in 2024, providing practical guidance for navigating these complex processes. As artificial intelligence starts to reshape medical education in practice, a session is dedicated to understanding its impact and the potential unintended consequences of its integration. The series will also highlight the importance of pre-matriculation programs and student mentoring in ensuring medical student success, offering strategies to enhance preparedness and confidence among a diverse body of incoming students. By sharing successful strategies and lessons learned, this session offers healthcare educators the tools needed to design and implement effective programs at their institutions. Finally, the series concludes with an exploration of the power of language in medicine, focusing on how stigmatizing language in clinical documentation and presentations can perpetuate bias. Participants will learn to recognize and revise stigmatizing language, promoting anti-oppressive practices that reduce racial disparities in patient care and influence better diagnostic and treatment decisions.
Be part of the conversation as we explore these dynamic shifts in health education and equip educators with the knowledge and strategies to drive meaningful change at their institution.
